Wednesday PubNight:Portland No. 71 - 6:30 pm at Free Street Taverna

Back to the Pub Night home page

On the list of things to celebrate, we have a belated PubNight birthday for Demetra -- maybe we can cajole her into picking next week's spot. We should also celebrate Sue's "lovely voice" which can be heard at the currently showing
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying"
at Lyric Theater. Check out the nice review they got from the Press Herald at http://entertainment.mainetoday.com/theater/business.shtml. I thought the end of the review was a nice touch:
    **************
Amateur cCommunity theater brings people out of their homes and away from those television sets. Productions provide raw enthusiasm on stage as well as in the audience of friends and neighbors. Critics rarely hold them to the highest professional standards because there is something inherently valuable in this expression of community that supersedes expectations for perfect performances.

Sometimes the sets don't work quite the way they should and on occasion an actor's lines seem to drift out of his head just as he begins to speak.

Despite these momentary lapses, the pure spirit of enthusiasm and energy is contagious in Lyric's production of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
    ***************

Would it be be in bad taste to point out the perils of cCommunity based rReviewers or nNewspapers have poor pProofreaders?

As the saying goes, There's no such thing as a free lunch.

But there is a Free Street.

And on that street there's a taverna (I think that's Greek for tavern).

So let's meet there on Wednesday (2/28) and celebrate.

  • Where: Free Street Taverna
  • Address:128 Free Street (between the Museum of Art & the Civic Center)
  • Date: Wednesday Feb. 28
  • When: 6:30 PM
  • Food: yes, they have food
If you're up for a late night, stick around until 10 PM when you can see Jenny Jumpstart and the Cap Guns.

See you at PubNight.
