Wednesday Pub Night Portland #68 - 6:45 pm at Mercury

Back to the Pub Night home page

PubNighters,

There's a new pub in town, and it's our duty to inspect it. Astute eyes have picked up a new martini lounge on Fore Street. As Stuart put it, "If this were the West Village, a new martini bar wouldn't be a big deal; but in Portland it's a litte more rare."

So - let's check out this Una-esque place on Fore Street - in the vicinity of the candy store and the condom store. If they're closed or unavailable - we'll head a few doors down to the Bitter End.

The name of the place is Mercury. Perhaps named after the ancient god, or the element? Speaking of which - why is Hg the symbol for Mercury? For anybody who finds out the answer I'll buy you a drink [Editor's note: click here, but don't tell Dan you did] and then poke fun at you for having too much time on your hands for solving these silly little problems.

See you tonight at:

  • Mercury
  • Fore Street - near the candy & condoms
  • 6:45 PM
  • Wednesday, February 7, 2001
  • Backup: Bitter End
