Wednesday Pub Night Portland #38 - 7:00 at Three Dollar Dewey's
Back to the Pub Night home page
PubNighters,
They came, they sailed, they left.
Pretty much sums it up huh? OpSail Maine 2000 sailed through Portland
and we all survived. Some of us even had the pleasure of watching the
tall ships from the vantage point of my new office. Sort of makes it
all worth it doesn't it?
This week, in addition to celebrating the birthday of MTV (19 years
old), I'd like to toast the sailing vessel Kristina (44 years old) which
crossed the finish line in third place in her first race in the last
five years. We sailed in the MS Regatta this past weekend and despite
some setbacks (not knowing the racing rules, not being able to find the
starting line, and resorting to holding the sails in place since there
wasn't much wind to fill them) and despite some close calls (nearly
being run over by a Flying Chicken, and being bullied around by a boat
that knew even less of the racing rules than we did), and despite some
early tactical misgivings (our strategy was to follow Dodge Morgan's
schooner Eagle - but he was behind us for the whole race), we managed to
do all right.
So, to continue setting very modest goals for myself (last week was to
finish anywhere but last in the race), I'm going to charge myself with
this week's goal -- remembering to bring Nona's email address in to work
so I can add her to the PubNight list.
There are rumors of two separate groups of PubNight virgins coming to
PubNight this week - one group from Brian's family and another group of
virgins from the Coast Guard. (Anyone want to take a shot at that
suggestive note?) Also new to PubNight could be Susan's mom and
family. And new to Portland is Susan who arrived today and landed an
apartment on the Eastern prom with a view almost as good as mine. So,
put on your PubNight welcome hats, and meet all of these virgins at:
Three Dollar Dewey's
241 Commercial Street
at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2 (can it be August already?)
See you there.
Dan
