Wednesday Pub Night Portland #16 - 7:30 at Erik's Pub
Back to the Pub Night home page
WEDNESDAY --- WEDNESDAY --- WEDNESDAY --- WEDNESDAY ---
OK now I won't forget to remind you that PubNight is on Wednesday.
We had a special guest choose the location for PubNight this week - even
though it's not his birthday,
Brad chose the location. He decided we should go to
Erik's pub (30 Market Street). It could be that Erik's is named after
Erik the Red (http://viking.no/e/etimeline.htm)- the viking who
discovered Greenland - and sired
Leif Eriksson (http://viking.no/e/etimeline.htm) - reputedly the first
European to discover America - long before
Christopher Columbus - the original choice for the carving of
Mount Rushmore (http://www.state.sd.us/tourism/rushmore/history.htm) -
which now instead portrays
Abe Lincoln (http://www.nps.gov/moru/) - a famous president who never
killed anybody. Unlike
Andrew Jackson
(http://www.whitehouse.gov/WH/glimpse/presidents/html/aj7.html) - a
famous president who killed somebody for saying something nasty about
his wife. Speaking of famous Jacksons ...
Dave Jackson (http://www.oceannavigator.com/sem/) runs the Ocean
Navigator School of Ocean Seamanship which is hosting a great seminar
about marine computing here in Portland [sorry for the shameless plug]
used to own a boat which he sold to
Kirstie Alley (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Alley,+Kirstie) who in 1988
starred in "She's Having a Baby" with . . .
Kevin Bacon (http://louisville.com/loumag/mar/bacon.htm). You knew we'd
wind up with Kevin Bacon somehow didn't you?
So - in short, meet at:
Erik's (30 Market Street - next to Mazza)
at 7:00 PM (they serve food there)
on March 1 (that's Wednesday)
Hope to see you tomorrow night.
- Dan
