Wednesday Pub Night Portland #14 - 7:00 at Margaritas
Back to the Pub Night home page
Pub Night Fans,
Welcome to the first ever Post Valentines Day PubNight:Portland. When
looking for a good reason to celebrate, I found that the only
significant historical event for today is Fidel Castro being sworn in as
leader of Cuba in 1959 after a failed baseball career. Hardly a reason
to celebrate.
However - locally we can celebrate Demetra's birthday (2/15). According
to the PubNight Charter (under lock and key at the PubNight Archives
Building), she will get to choose the location for next week's PubNight.
On the celebratory note, consider this:
"One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the
third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men
made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed
marriage for young, single men -- his crop of potential soldiers.
Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and
continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When
Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to
death. " -

So apropos of nothing really, we'll celebrate at a Mexican place -
Margaritas (behind the Civic Center)
11 Brown Street
at 7:00 PM
See you tonight.
