Wednesday Pub Night Portland #123 - 6:30 Bull Feeney's

Back to the Pub Night home page

PubNight Associates,

Since I spent most of the weekend recovering from my
birthday celebrations, I almost let St. Patrick's day
slip by unnoticed. In fact, we've got a lot to
celebrate this week. On Wednesday, PubNight-day, at
2:16 PM Spring arrives. And depending on what the
latest rumors are, the season's last(?) snow storm
arrives shortly thereafter.

So, I figure that leaves us with two options for
PubNight -- a snow-theme or an Irish theme. I
couldn't come up with any Icelandic or Siberian pubs.
The closest I got was the Ice House. But somehow I
didn't think this would be a big hit with the PubNight
crowd. The Irish theme seemed far more promising. In
fact, for a city of its size Portland seems to have an
abundance of Irish pubs. Perhaps even the highest
concentration of Irish pubs in Maine. Having already
been to Brian Boru and RiRa (the most Irish of the
bunch), Stuart came up with the suggestion of the
newest addition to our roster of Irish pubs, Bull
Feeney's. The old Old Chicago, which was in turn the
old Seaman's Club. Anybody know what was before that?

Stuart also found in his travels through the Internet
(looking unsuccessfully for a phone number for Bull
Feeney's) that Bull Feeney is actually the same person
as John Ford (the bronze guy on the corner of Danforth
& York & Middle & Center). Apparently Feeney was his
original surname and Bull was a nickname he earned by
his aggressiveness in high school sports at Cape
Elizabeth.

So join us in a belated St. Patrick's day celebration
at Portland newest Irish/cinema-themed pub:

Bull Feeney's
Middle St & Moulton St
6:30 PM
Wednesday, March 20

Laurie stopped by and confirmed that they are indeed
open, and will be open tomorrow night. (And no - you
can't call because they won't pick up the phone since
their one line is used by the credit card machine as
well.)

See you at PubNight.

- Dan
