Wednesday Pub Night Portland #1 - 8:00 at Gritty McDuffs

Back to the Pub Night home page

Hello all,

Tomorrow (Wednesday) night will mark the first time Pub Night comes to Portland. Pub Night is a tradition that began over three years ago in New York City and has been taking place each and every Wednesday night. Here's basically how it works:

Each week on Monday or Tuesday, I'll send out an e-mail to everybody on the Pub Night:Portland list with details on what pub we've chosen for that Wednesday night. When you get the message, feel free to forward it on to friends, co-workers, or acquaintances. Then on Wednesday, at the appointed time, just show up -- no need to RSVP. It's a free event (well, you do have to pay for whatever you eat or drink). There's no big "official" Pub Night Meets Here banner or anything like that (yet), we just meet at the pub and hang out. If you want to add someone to the Pub Night:Portland e-mail list, just let me know and I'll make it happen.

Everybody's invited - bring whoever you want, and bring an appetite for food, drink, and witty conversation. In the three years of PubNight:New York City, we've had over 350 people show up. For more info on the original Pub Night, visit http://www.pubnight.com/

Here's a quote to give you an idea of what goes on at Pub Night:

"Wow.

That pretty much sums up my feeling about this wacky liquor-inspired
era. Three and a half years ago (3/27/96), we wandered by a new bar on
4th street and decided to get a group of people together that night. The
168 pubnights since that one have been filled with old friends and new
friends (353 to be exact), beer, vodka, scotch, and some crazy mixed
drinks. . .
The past three and a half years have brought about an incredible amount
of change in our lives. We've seen pubnight relationships created and
fallen apart (no examples here to protect the innocent). We've met each
other's blind dates and more significant others (ditto). We've seen
several marriages (Stuart & Laura, Karen & David, Athomas & Renee), and
at least one birth (Matthew). We've seen people move away (Jesse, Anna, Dan, Stuart,
Laura) and move to New York (lots of one-timers here). . ."

SO - with all the pomp and circumstance I can fit into an email, here are the details for Pub Night:Portland No. 1

This week, we'll celebrate my surviving:
1) A three week sail down to St. Barthelemy
2) Hurricane Jose
3) Three back-to-back Portland Players' shows
4) My move from a boat to an island
5) My brother and sister-in-law moving to town
6) Becoming a godfather

Hope to see you all there!

- Dan
